Code of ethics

The code of ethics reflects our commitment to seniors and their families who require the expertise of our residence advisors. Résidences Québec's residence advisors must abide by this code of ethics and therefore recognize seniors' rights to be well informed so they can make educated decisions.

Founded in 2004, the Québec Association for lodging consultants for seniors (ACHQ), is a group of professionals who support seniors and their families in their efforts to find an RPA.

The members of the ACHQ are committed to offering a professional service respecting a code of ethics which governs the practice of the profession.

  • Integrity
    • Avoid any situations with a conflict of interest.
    • Be neutral and impartial when selecting private seniors' residences.
    • Avoid being accountable to anyone who may influence undue actions that go beyond the performance of their duties.
    • Act with diligence, vigilance and benevolence in each of the cases we treat.
  • The right to information
    • Ensure the accuracy and clarity of the information we provide to the senior and family about residences that could meet his/her needs.
    • Involve the senior's family in the decision-making process, if it is the senior's wish.
    • Ensure the senior's full participation and consent in decisions that affect him/her, depending on his/her abilities
    • Answer the senior's, family's or caregiver's questions to ensure that they understand the process.
  • Respect
    • Treat the senior with courtesy, fairness and empathy, respecting his/her needs, values and abilities.
    • Avoid placing pressure on the senior, family or caregiver to avoid making a rushed decision.
  • Confidentiality
    • Ensure the confidentiality of the senior's personal and medical information.
    • Obtain consent from the senior for the transfer of records to third parties if necessary to ensure that the senior receives all the services and care he/she needs.
  • Social responsibility
    • Inform the appropriate authorities of any abuse or unsafe situation that would endanger the safety of the senior.
