Private residential and long-term care centres not bound by contract are owned entirely by a private sector company. Charges, operations and admission are determined solely by their owners. However, they must meet the standards of the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux and must hold a permit issued by the ministry, as do public and private care centres bound by contract. Their clientele consists of seniors with a loss of autonomy who require more than three hours of care per day. All costs related to accommodation and services are payable by residents on an à la carte, fixed price or lease basis, depending on their specific needs.
